WORKERS TO SUBMIT WAGE THEFT COMPLAINT AGAINST CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE

[HOUSTON, TX]On Wednesday October 25, 2023 at 11:30am at Houston City Hall (901 Bagby Houston, TX 77002) workers, community members and FIEL spokespeople will gather to submit a formal complaint to the City Secretary.

The complaints are against Ivan Sanchez candidate for City Council District J who hired canvassers and has refused to pay them. There is evidence and reports of bad labor practices that workers were subjected to. They want to recover their wages and get the justice they deserve

"Is is unfortunate that we have had multiple people come forward to begin the long arduous process of recovering wages when they should have been paid to begin with. According to the reports we have received from multiple people they were promised work and bonuses that ended up just being empty promises. We want to do right by these people and we want to make it an example that ANY campaign that doesn’t pay their staff we will be watching and holding you accountable. " – Cesar Espinosa FIEL Executive Director

FIEL: Immigrant Families and Students in the Fight is an Immigrant Led Civil Rights Organization that advocates for just laws for all families, access to higher education for all people regardless of immigration status, and for the rights of all people in unjust situations.
