FIEL STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT’S INDEFINITE STAY ON SB4

[HOUSTON, TX] On Friday March 18 2024, Justice Alito Extended the temporary stay on SB4 indefinitely. FIEL spokespeople are available for comment

“We continue to ride this legal roller coaster in legal terms when it comes to SB4. Things are changing almost on a day to day basis. We want to caution people to not take this as a win but rather a temporary halt and slow down on the legal process of SB4. There is still much to be discussed and seen when it comes to this legal process. This new stay will give the 5th circuit an opportunity to hear oral arguments on April 13 and the opportunity for this law to make its way back to the Supreme Court to determine its final fate. We encourage people to remain vigilant and to continue to prepare for the worst case scenario should this law take effect. We hope that justice will prevail and will be declared as we believe it to be unconstitutional. As for right now the law is not in effect and our hope would be that it stays that way. " – Cesar Espinosa FIEL Executive Director
