FIEL STATEMENT ON SB4 3/19/24

[HOUSTON, TX] On Tuesday March 19, 2024 the Supreme Court of the US went back on its decision to stay SB4 dealing a devastating blow to the immigrant community. . FIEL spokespeople are available for comment

“In a surprising turn of events the Supreme Court went back on its previous ruling and allowed SB4 to go into effect. This unconstitutional law will be the law of the land while the lower courts and the supreme court itself reviews it. We are worried about this because we know this will have a devastating impact on the state’s immigrant population, our state economy and our law enforcement. We continue to ride this legal roller coaster in legal terms when it comes to SB4. This issue will now go to the 5th circuit for an opportunity to hear oral arguments on April 13. After the law sill more than likely head back to the Supreme Court to determine its final fate. We encourage people to remain vigilant and to continue to prepare for the worst case scenario as this law takes effect. We hope that justice will prevail and the law will be declared as we believe it to be unconstitutional. " – Cesar Espinosa FIEL Executive Director
