A FAMILY APPART TORN BY FALSE CLAIMS
[HOUSTON, TX] On Friday May 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at FIEL Headquarters (4635 Sw Freeway #220 Houston , TX 77027) Family, friends and supporters of Margarita Avila will gather to talk about the injustice of her detention.
Margarita Avila a mother and hard-working woman, was working on March 12, 2025 when there was an alleged altercation with a USPS worker. Upon the police arriving and only talking to the USPS worker, they proceeded to Arrest Ms Avila. Ms. Avila, who has lived in the country for decades and has no criminal history, was booked into the Harris County Jail on assault charges. She was subsequently given an ice hold and sent to ICE detention. Recently, the DA of Harris County DISMISSED the case against Ms Avila for lack of evidence.
“What a tragedy this family has experienced. ALL because of a hard day of honest work. We demand that Mrs Avila be released from detention so she may go back to her family and fight her deportation case. It is unjust that this mother had to spend Mother’s Day behind bars, even as no charges were filed against her. Are these the ‘ harden criminals’ the administration is trying to capture? " – Cesar Espinosa FIEL Executive Director
