MORE VICTIMS OF VAWA FRAUD COME FORWARD
[HOUSTON, TX] On Friday August 22 at 12:00pm at FIEL Headquarters (4635 SW Freeway #220 Houston, TX 77027) affected victims and FIEL spokespeople will talk about more widespread immigration fraud happening all over the US and in Houston especially VAWA fraud.
"In the last month hundreds of families have reached out to our office as victims of vawa fraud. We now have about 60 cases and are prepared to go to the next phase of advocacy for these families. What we have found out is that the problems is larger than we had anticipated and many people are involved in this widespread farud. A few months ago we started seeing an increase of immigrant people applying for VAWA. What started off as something to keep an eye on has now turned into a wide spread problem in the Houston are and around the U.S. VAWA is a program that was designed to protect victims of domestic violence. Unfortunately some attorneys have abused this system and relied on the fact that people were not getting called to interviews. Now under the current administration not only are all cases getting called to interview but once cases are denied the victims of this fraud are being put in deportation proceedings. WE demand that these fraudulent attorneys cease this practice at once and are asking for the authorities to get involved to protect this vulnerable community.
