HELP FOR IMMIGRANTS AFTER HARVEY
Our community must not be overlooked.
[Houston, TX] As storms ravage Houston we call on our local state and national leadership to NOT OVERLOOK our immigrant community. FIEL’s Exexutive Directos Cesar Espinosa is available for comment over skype or over phone for comment.
In an effort to centralize information for our immigrant community we have decided to add a page on our website to centralize information. www.fielhouston.org/harvey
Here are some things we would like to highlight in regards to Immigrants and Hurricane Harvey:
- People have heightened feared to be questions about their immigration status
- With SB4 going into effect on Friday people have worries about their status then
- People may not qualified for FEMA benefits
- Some families may loose everything
- DACA recipients are in danger of loosing status at this moment so going back to work to recover may be impossible after the storm
"We were part of the recovery efforts during the last flood which greatly affected the Greenspoint Area in April 2016. We know this is gong to be significantly worse in magnitude. What troubled us the most about that flood was the lack of help for the undocumented community who are a vital part of our Houston community and economy. We hope that there are recovery efforts specifically set aside for all of those who may not have access to federal benefits." Cesar Espinosa Executive Director of FIEL
FIEL: Immigrant Families and Students in the Struggle is an organization that advocates for just laws for immigrant families,
access to higher education for all people regardless of immigration status and for the rights of all people in unjust situations.
