TENANTS STAND UP TO SLUMLORD
TENANTS WANT CHANGE.
[Houston, TX] On Monday September 11, 2017 at 11:00an at Rockport Apartments (8500 Nairm St Houston, TX 77074) tenants, attorneys, representatives of the Red Cross and community leaders will hold a press conference to highlight the anomalies at this apartment and the unlivable conditions they have been living in .
FIEL team members have been visiting this apartment complexes immediately following the storm. Upon the first visit to these apartments we were appalled by the living conditions in which these people found themselves in. Many community members are living in unlivable conditions and the apartment complex is not willing to work with them to relocate the tenants of offer any real concessions. In fact the owner of the property gave his tenants a deadline of Sept 7th to pay the rent and threatened to charge late fees if rent was not paid by then. On September 9th we received notice that folks were being told that they had to leave by Monday,. Some tenants have even told us that the owner was asking them to call the city to tell them conditions were not as bad. Tenants will be available to give first hand account of the conditions and threats they are facing.

"We want to make sure that all apartment management owners and companies get the message that they cannot take advantage of their tenants during these very difficult times. We hope that if other folks are going through similar situations they reach out so we may be able to help. It is a shame that some slumlords have no compassion during these very difficult times.
