Judge Aslup’s Order Gets Upheld by USCIS

In the wake of the DACA battle in Congress, there is hope for Dreamers

[HOUSTON, TX] On January 14th, 2018 at 11:00am at FIEL Headquarters (6610 Harwin #214 Houston, TX 77036) FIEL Spokespeople,Community Leaders and DREAMERS will react to being able to apply for DACA Renewals. On a USCIS confirms it will accept some Renewal Applications for DACA recipients effective immediately.

On September 5th, 2017. The Trump administration cruely ended the DACA program, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which offered protection from deportation to Dreamers. The announcement, which was made by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, received outcry from those affected and those sympathetic to this group of undocumented immigrants. On Tuesday, January 9th, 2018, Federal judge William Aslup from the 9th District, halted the rescinding of DACA, announcing that the grounds which Sessions pointed out for being the reason that Trump rescind DACA had no legal basis.

Now, USCIS has announced today that they will now accept DACA renewal applications effective immediately. Those who will be able to renew are those who’s DACA expires within the next 6 months, those who were not able to renew before the October 5th, 2017 deadline and those who’s DACA expired AFTER September 5th, 2016. They will NOT accept new DACA applications, they will not accept renewal applications from those who’s permits expired BEFORE September 5th, 2016 and those who’s DACA was terminated for whatever reason. The ability for DACA recipients to apply for Advance Parole is still not available.

Director of Community Protection, Abraham Espinosa commented today, “… We are overjoyed that there will be DREAMERs who will be able to renew and we commend Judge Aslup’s decision in blocking the Presidents’ termination of DACA…”, Espinosa later added “… Even though we get to renew our DACA again, we must still fight for a permanent solution through Congress and fight for a CLEAN Dream Act…”
