CONGRESS IS FAILING TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY
[HOUSTON, TX]On Thursday February 8 at midnight the government will shutdown if a budget deal is not reached. BUT, congress is moving steadfast to approve a budget measure that DOES NOT include a plan to address immigration issues or the plight of the DREAMers. FIEL spokespeople are available for comment.
"For years DREAMers and immigrant’s rights advocates have put their lives on the line and on hold to continue to push for a comprehensive fix to our broken immigration system. In the last months hundreds of undocumented youth have traveled hundreds of miles to take their plight to congress and push for a solution to the DREAMer crisis which president Trump has created. We feel very disheartened that congress will more than likely vote to approve a measure for a government budget that will not include the very necessary urgent matter of immigration. We will not give up. We will continue to fight and continue to hold congress accountable for tearing apart our families and our communities. We need a permanent solution for DREAMers and their families NOW." – Cesar Espinosa Executive Director FIEL
