COMMUNITY CALLS FOR HELP FOR GUATEMALA AND TPS
[Houston, TX] On Sunday June 10, 2018 at 3:00pm at Restaurante Guatemala (3330 Hillcroft Houston, TX 77036) community members, community leaders, and elected officials will gather to ask for additional help for Guatemala and for TPS for Guatemalan Nationals.
After the eruption of the Volcan de Fuego the region has been left with a dire need for international aid. The people in Guatemala find themselves in a very difficult situation where they have limited access to even the most basic needs. Houston has come together and showed an amazing amount of support to the people in Guatemala. We still need help for people to help in the process of sending aid to the region.
Because of the events that have unfolded and because over 1,000,000 people have been displaced we are going to begin the process of petitioning the government to Expand TPS protection for Guatemalan Nationals.
"Our heart goes out to the people of Guatemala. We will continue to garner support to help the country back on its feets. We thank the Houston community for helping us thus far and look forward to the support we can garner to help get the supplies to their final destination. We also ask the federal government to recognize that at this point Guatemala could not handle a large influx of people so we request that they extend TPS protections to Guatemalan Nationals." – Cesar Espinosa Executive Director FIEL
