DEER PARK ISD SEPARATE IS NOT EQUAL
[HOUSTON, TX] On Friday April 29, 2022 at 10:00am at DEER PARK ISD (2800 Texas Avenue, Deer Park, TX 77536) Concerned parents, children and FIEL representative will gather to highlight a set of injustices happening in Deer Park ISD . FIEL Spokespeople and affected parents will be available for testimonies.
"A few weeks ago we were contacted by various parents whose children attend Deer Park ISD. with some serious claims of discrimination based on socio economic status and language. We have enough testimonies to bring these claims forwards and upon meeting with the affected families we have learned that this is a systemic problem happening in Deer Park ISD. While some parents live next to a school they are forced to send their kids across town to other campuses where they may have ‘adequate’ language acquisition. We feel that Deer park should to a better job at equipping every school to meet the communities needs. To add insult to injury various reports from
Parkway Elementary School Parents have said that there is a SEVERE RAT INFESTATION in the school which is making the children sick! We demand an immediate fix to this and would like to remind Deer park that there is no place for discrimination of any type and that separate but equal is illegal." – Cesar Espinosa FIEL Executive Director
FAMILIES DEMAND
- EQUALITY and FREEDOM to choose the school their children want to go to. That the District looks at changing demographics and puts the resources needed to meet the expectations of parents
- DEMAND that the ESS program return to the federal building and be managed under equal conditions for children who speak English and Spanish. That the nursery that was established find a new home which may be suitable.
- EXTREME CLEANING Although the administrators had said that they will close the school for summer classes to do a proper extermination job, they changed their mind and said that they are not going to do it anymore. Further the parents demand an immediate extermination along with the treatment to kill the rodents that have been seen by the children and faculty at the school while children are present. WE WANT THE IMMEDIATE EXTERMINATION OF RATS so that the children may stop getting sick and being put at risk
