WHO: Former members and survivors of the organization Secta La Luz del Mundo. Elisa Flores, Sochil Martin, Raquel Haifa Chantres, Judith Castillo Together with the organization FIEL Houston Executive Director Cesar Espinosa
WHAT: Protest to denounce rape
DAY: Sunday April 2
TIME: 9:00 AM central time USA
PLACE: In front of La Luz del Mundo Church, Houston Central
ADDRESS: 8312 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX, 77093
We want justice for the victims and would like the church to implement precautionary measures, such as a background check for managers/leaders in any performance of any ministry. We would like for them to not allow the return of sexual predators to any event organized by the organization, much less have contact with children.
"We want our relatives, friends and members in general of the Organization of La Luz del Mundo to realize the abuses to which they are subjected in the name of faith. To all the victims of all types of abuses we tell them that we are here to support them as #EXLLDM members and we support them to find justice, along with the support of the authorities to denounce and bring abusers to justice and pay for their crimes," Raquel Haifa Chantres #EXLLDM
"At the age of 12 I was sexually assaulted by a member of this cult. I remember running into the restroom and turning the shower on and jumping into the shower to try to wash away all of the ugly feelings of me. I cried, I was shaking, I felt scared, I didn’t understand why he did this to me, I felt guilty, I felt like I was not Pure in the eyes of the lord because of what this Monster did to me." Elisa Flores #EXLLDM
"I narrate the cruel story of my life, which the religious organization forced me to marry at the age of 15, causing an impediment during my adolescence year and towards my identity. I was a victim of authoritarian oppression of mental abuse, which led me to commit an attempted suicide at the age of 18. Taking away my religious rights leading me to an abyss of depression, when I sought help from religious authorities I was denied. Without an identity, feeling isolated, I took refuge in studying and fighting for the rights of women, children and the undocumented." Judith Castillo #EXLLDM
We are former members of the Light of the World #EXLLDM. We are survivors of the Organization La Luz Del Mundo and we ask for Justice for all the victims of LLDM where the human rights of children who have been silenced are protected. THAT IS WHY WE CALL THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY TO JOIN THIS SUNDAY IN FRONT OF THE TEMPLE OF THE CHURCH OF THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD PROTESTING AGAINST ALL THE ABUSES AND OFFERING SUPPORT TO THE VICTIMS WHO NEED IT LOCALLY TOGETHER WITH CIVIL ORGANIZATIONS.
"In the name of justice we are supporting the victims of La Luz Del Mundo because these cases cannot go unpunished. Many of these people were threatened and intimidated by the leaders of this church, many of them using tactics like they would get deported if they spoke out. We ask all authorities to investigate the local church to talk to victims and start investigations." – Cesar Espinosa Executive Director FIEL
