Statement on Adjustment of Status
[HOUSTON, TX] The following statement is a response to the "Memo" released by USCIS on Friday May 22, 2026 regarding Adjustments of Status. This statement may be attributed to Cesar Espinosa from FIEL Houston
"
Today, the administration released ‘new guidance’ on how to handle requests to adjust status in the U.S. We disagree with this memo because it conflicts with longstanding immigration law. We are working with our legal team to get more information on this and to potentially join a lawsuit challenging this newfound claim. Please continue to stay tuned for further updates. If you are in the process of adjustment, consult with your immigration attorney as to your particular case. We believe there is no need to take immediate action until we get more clarification on this. We also want to remind the community that the President does NOT get to rewrite immigration law. ONLY Congress has the authority to do that. " -Cesar Espinosa FIEL Houston
