GOVERNMENT MOVING TO END GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
WITHOUT THE DREAM ACT
[Houston, TX] On Monday January 22, 2018 the Senate of the U.S. began the process of voting to reopening the government by approving a funding bill until February 8. This CR bill WILL NOT INCLUDE the DREAM Act. FIEL spokespeople are available for comment.
- We win by standing strong and united, not by retreating. Last week, we were thrilled that Democrats stood up for progressive values and confronted a dangerous President and the Republicans that enable him. Today we are disgusted with Republicans who refuse to budge and angry and disappointed with Democrats who backed down in exchange for more delay and an uncertain promise of future action.
- We will dust ourselves off, we will be resilient, and we will be resolute. We want champions, representatives and allies to do more than give lip service to these values. We will fight and win. Our leaders need to understand: we won’t quit, we won’t back down, and we will rise — with or without them.
- This outcome is disappointing and a setback but the fight is far from over
