PRESS STATEMENT ON 5-4 SUPREME COURT RULING ON IMMIGRATION

[Houston, TX] On Tuesday April 17, 2018 the Supreme Court Ruled on Sessions v. Dimaya, 15-1498. In a 5 to 4 vote the court sided with Dimaya citing that immigration law was too vague and in certain cases not applicable to deport certain individuals for minor crimes. FIEL spokespeople are available for comment.

"We applaud the Supreme Court for coming to true findings in this case and applying the interpretation of the law in the best manner possible. We understand that this only applies to a small number of individuals but hopefully this will help families of those who have made minor errors in their lives continue to fight against their deportations. In states like Arizona and Texas that have made attempt to further criminalize the undocumented community this could have a huge impact. "- Cesar Espinosa Executive Director FIEL
