TRUMP PROPOSES INDEFINITE DETENTION OF FAMILIES
[Houston, TX] On Thursday September 6, 2018 the Trump Administration announce a NEW RULE suspending the Flores Settlement (Flores V Reno) and now announcing that children can be detained with the families INDEFINITELY pending an asylum claim. FIEL Spokespeople are available for comment.
"This is yet another attack by the Trump administration against the immigrant community. In the Flores V Reno case it was determined that holding children in detention for more than 20 days was inhumane. Now 20 years later the trump administration seeks to do away with the ruling and create a new set of guideline.
This could have devastating impacts on over crowding and civil rights violations at detention centers.
We condemn this ruling and hope that someone may challenge it in court before 60 days pass and it is implemented fully. " – Cesar Espinosa Executive Director FIEL
