TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TRANSFERS $10 MILLION FROM FEMA TO ICE
[Houston, TX] On Wednesday September 12, 2018, in a story on USA today, (read story here) Senator Merkley outlines how the Trump administration took $10 million dollars from the agency to help in detention and deportation operations for ICE. FIEL spokespeople are available for comment.
"We are in the middle of Hurricane season and to have received this news, living in a region devastated by Hurricane Harvey, is a definite cause for concern. We know that there are several significant storm systems coming our way and now more than ever we need the systems that are in place like FEMA so be adequately prepared to respond to anything that comes our way. It is important to point out that last year, after several devastating natural disasters, FEMA had already had a budget shortfall and budget cuts. To take more money from an agency that bears more responsibilities and becomes increasingly necessary is irresponsible. We also condemn the fact that this money will be sued to further Trumps political agenda of detaining and separating more, families and more children. " – Cesar Espinosa Executive Director FIEL
