Houston Attorneys Rally Behind Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

[Houston, TX] On Wednesday July 15, 2026 at 12:30 pm outside fo the Criminal Justice Center (1201 Franklin Houston, TX 77002) attorneys, community members and FIEL members will gather to rally behind a full independent investigation into the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. They will be available for comment

Today, Houston attorneys are gathering to speak plainly about a system that has drifted far from the due process guarantees our Constitution promises to everyone on U.S. soil, citizen or not.

Immigration enforcement should operate within the rule of law; yet we are seeing individuals detained without meaningful access to counsel, hearings scheduled and conducted in ways that make it functionally impossible to present a defense, and enforcement actions that treat fundamental procedural protections as optional. This is a professional observation, made by lawyers who stand in courts week after week.

Due process is the mechanism by which we ensure that the government does not have unchecked power over a person’s liberty.

The rule of law is only real if it applies equally, including to those with the least power to demand it.

We call on immigration enforcement agencies and the courts that oversee them to recommit to the basic guarantees that due process requires — not as a courtesy, but as an obligation.
